Quick SEO strategies for new websites

seo strategies for new websites

If you want more people to find your new website, make the time to optimise it for search engines. When you pay attention to search engine optimisation (SEO), you’ll target visitors who are ideal clients for your business and you’ll also increase your website’s ranking on popular search engines such as Google.

Additionally, your optimised content blurbs (meta descriptions), titles and headlines will look much better in search results. This makes your website more attractive to potential visitors who are using your keywords when they’re searching for the services you’re offering, regardless of your niche and whether you’re a lawyer, bookkeeper or real estate agent.

So, how can you quickly optimise your business website for SEO?

1. Learn how to research and use keywords

Once you know how to research keywords, you can create a list of the best targeted search terms your ideal client is using when searching for the services or products you’re selling. Start by searching Google from a client’s perspective.

What words would you type to find your new website? If you’re finding this hard, think about the words you’d use when searching for a service you intend to use this year (e.g. how would you search for a dentist, a car dealership or a local restaurant?).

If that’s still hard to do, then ask your existing customers who found you online.

Once you’ve developed your list of prioritised keywords, you’ll need to be strategic when placing them on your new website both in the code and the content readers will be reading.

Be sure to insert keywords so they look as natural as possible so that you don’t annoy your readers – and the search engines – as they could mistake your relevant content for spammy content!

2. Optimise for a specific target audience

If you have a website, then you’ve already identified the ideal clients you wish to target with your website. You also know which services you want to market to them and the types of offers you want to emphasise in your messages.

Let’s say you’re a real estate agent selling to a specific group of investors who are interested in growing their portfolio with multiple properties. You’ll want to target potential clients who can afford to buy multiple properties or those who have properties to sell to investors.

When you optimise your website to lure in these investors or sellers, you’ll use strong, specific and well-researched keywords that would bring the typical clients you really want in your portfolio.

3. Don’t forget to address local clients

Whether you target Australia, Western Australia, Perth metropolitan area or narrow it down to your local government area – e.g. City of Rockingham, remember the typical clients who are using search engines to find local services or products your area.

With local search optimisation takes your search engine targeting to another level. You not only research and use strong keywords for your niche but also identify local keywords that attract local traffic. Next, you can craft strong copy that satisfies, engages and converts them.

4. Add a blog to your website

Major search engines are designed to rank websites based on the quality of the pages they’re publishing for users and whether the content are fresh or stale. Searchers are also looking for problem-solving content that are fresh and relevant. This is your chance to write relevant, well-researched content that have enough details to educate your potential client or to help them solve their problems.

A couple of examples – “How do I contest my parent’s will?” and “How do I claim business expenses as a sole trader?”

This will increase the likelihood that your content will be found in search results for those keywords (e.g. “contest a will” and “claim business expenses”. Address these types of problems and soon enough you’ll have more ideal clients visiting your website.

5. Optimise descriptions, titles and headlines

Don’t ignore meta descriptions, page titles and blog headlines! They can either help you get lost or get found in search engines.

Contents with relevant keyword-focused meta descriptions, titles and headlines that summarise the promised content are more likely to get found in search engines because search engines look for the keywords within the titles/headlines in addition to within the pages.

Write them like you’re writing a mini advert, so they describe the solution with a sense of mystery, therefore luring prospective clients to your pages or blog posts.

Unsure how to optimise your website?
